Davaar House

It’s hard to put into words what Josephine from One Rundle brought to the restoration of Davaar House. From the very first moment we sat down together, I knew she got it. I shared my vision for transforming our cherished 1876 building into a sanctuary for wellness, and somehow, Josephine not only understood it — she elevated it to something more beautiful than I could have imagined.

Over the course of 12 months, Josephine worked alongside me with incredible sensitivity, creativity, and care. Her eye for colour, proportion, and light is exceptional — but more than that, she brought heart and soul to every detail. She respected the original beauty and character of Davaar House, while thoughtfully layering in modern elements that now create the sense of calm, warmth, and wellbeing our space is known for. When we first began, the house was in a severely run-down state — everything needed work, from floors, walls, ceilings, and lighting to curtains, handles, and even hooks. I had also made the decision to incorporate a café into the wellness centre, and Josephine seamlessly handled every aspect of that too, from benchtops to tables and seating, ensuring a perfect blend of functionality and style throughout.

Her role extended far beyond interior design. Josephine project-managed countless elements with grace under pressure, always prioritising the essence of the space and the experience we wanted to create for our guests. She was there for the tough decisions, the joyful reveals, and everything in between.

As the founder of Davaar House, my aim was to create a place of healing, beauty, and retreat — a space where people feel genuinely seen and restored. Josephine helped me bring that dream to life. Today, Davaar House stands as one of South Australia's most unique and exquisite wellness centres, and Josephine’s influence is evident in every room, every colour, every quiet corner of reflection.

I’ll always be deeply grateful for her contribution, and even more so for the journey we shared in bringing this vision to life.

Clare Valley Distillery & The Still House

Josephine Marshall has assisted me on earlier projects, including my Adelaide residence and a holiday house on Kangaroo Island. I had no hesitation in contacting her when needing professional input to create a welcoming, comfortable, upmarket guest house in the Clare Valley.

In 2021 a property was purchased on the outskirts of Clare, with the intention to create a home for the Clare Valley Distillery.  An architect was engaged to design the new distillery, tasting venue and conference facility, but an old house on the property caught our interest as an opportunity to create upmarket accommodation to complement the distillery operations.

As a separate project, a local builder was contracted and plans made to retain the two original stone rooms, demolish the remainder and build a new wing with a large living/dining/kitchen area, two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry, storage room, etc.  After the lengthy process of gaining Council approvals, the construction began.

It was then that we asked Josephine for assistance. From the outset, she brought a fresh, creative perspective. Her ability to think beyond surface aesthetics led to an alteration to the structural design of the new extension which proved transformative, drawing northern light into the new living areas.  The result is a warm, light-filled space that feels both relaxed and welcoming.

Likewise with the interior decoration. Her brief was to create an understated but classy vibe that guests would enjoy.  She listened, introduced many ideas and options and was incredibly patient.  The styling is elegant without being overdone, with many thoughtful touches, from the signature textiles, bespoke living room lighting and even indoor and outdoor games for the guests to enjoy!

We also asked Josephine if she would take over the design of the new gin tasting room, although the building was well under way. She willingly took on this much larger scale design challenge and delivered with creativity and confidence.  The room is beautifully balanced, modern and functional, with tables of different heights and sizes, bar stools, and a variety of chairs to keep the space interesting. Particularly pleasing are large rectangular tables, with Norfolk pine tops and bespoke metal bases.  The bar is topped by the same Norfolk pine, with front panels painted by an Adelaide artist with a copper finish, alluding to the copper still in our distillery.

Josephine is professional, creative, collaborative and easy to work with. Her ability to move seamlessly between residential and commercial design made a huge impact on both our projects.

With the guest house she has created an atmosphere that we consider perfectly balances charm, comfort and sophistication, exactly what we’d hoped for.

The design of the tasting room is equally pleasing.  It captures the essence of our brand – elegant, welcoming and rooted in the landscape.  It feels refined yet approachable and is functional, enhancing our operational needs and our customer experience.

I value the relationship I have formed with Josephine over several years and have every confidence in her abilities to produce excellent design outcomes in projects large and small.

Fitzroy

When the time came to furnish and style our newly acquired Fitzroy home, we had no hesitation in visiting Josephine and the team One Rundle, the recommendation came from friend and colleagues and we were pleasantly surprised and haven't looked back since.

Josephine's personal approach, professionalism and getting every detail on point has the daunting task of furnishing and styling our home a walk in the park.

For example, when we decided to give our ballroom fresh makeover Josephine was able to bring our vision to life.

She able to guide us with creative direction and styling solutions, including colour selections, floor design/layout, curtains, rugs, furniture and artwork. nothing was too hard and best of all everything was done within budget.

The ballroom was totally transformed into a beautiful space and we certainly could not have achieved this without Josephine and the One Rundle Co team, a testament to this was the room being featured in a published magazine.

We are extremely happy with the service and expertise provided.

We would highly recommend Josephine and the team at One Rundle Co with no hesitation.

Ditters

We are a heritage South Australian brand called Ditters Nuts founded in 1918. After many years of absence from the CBD, we took up the opportunity to reestablish a city presence in Adelaide Arcade, Rundle Mall in July 2025.

We approached Josephine Marshall to come up with the design concept for our shop as we love her design style and felt she would understand our brand and customers. The challenge was to transform a small, tight space (thankfully with high ceilings!) into a well functioning retail food shop that didn’t look overwhelming or ordinary. On top of this, it had to be an interior which looked appropriate in an historic building, but not old fashioned or cliche. We had to ensure the interior had instant appeal to passers-by and was memorable to visit; it had to look exclusive and high-end but welcoming and inviting.

Josephine not only came up with a stunning look for our shop, she expertly managed and supported us throughout the fit out process with great commitment and care, providing a sense of calm when needed. Her sense of style, scale and colour has greatly enhanced our space. Josephine came up with all the key pieces in our shop: the impressive gold pipework furniture, the stylish yet very functional shelving and storage drawers, the portrait of Otto Ditter, and the black striped walls. The result is absolutely stunning and has captured everything we set out to do, and more. When people come into the shop, they remark on how beautiful the space is and how much they love being in it.

Walkerville

We are fortunate to be custodians of a large historic house and grounds at Walkerville, and whilst it was almost fully furnished, it needed a professional make over and some overall aesthetic direction.

We parachuted Josephine in, and her experience and can do attitude, quickly took the house to the next level, particularly around clear themes for each room. What we had talked about for years, came together with Josephine in a few short months.

Excited to say, she is now guiding us on the next adventure.

More than happy to warmly recommend Josephine and her team’s services.

Kent Town

In September 2018 I engaged Josephine of One Rundle to design and oversee the demolition, design and transformation of my offices in Kent Town. I was familiar with her work and divine interpersonal skills from an extensive renovation project for a family member.

This project was an upstairs apartment in an 1890’s terrace that had been tragically converted into an ugly 90’s office unit. Access was tight and it was important to minimise disruption to surrounding tenants. The brief involved restoring the original, heritage features of the 2 bedroom apartment, renovating a bathroom and installing a galley kitchen whilst giving the space a light, serene, minimalist ambience.

Josephine is fabulous in involving you in as much or as little of the project as you wish.  Whilst keen to contribute to the design I had no interest in negotiating or managing trades. Josephine presented a seamless design theme throughout and engaged brilliant tradespeople who were punctual, reliable, tidy and superb at what they do. As in all renovations of old buildings, surprises arise and Josephine was extremely agile at adapting to minimise disruption. Working to a tight budget she was considerate of where to spend and where to save in order to not compromise the outcome. Her incredible eye and creative talent deliver unique projects that are congruent with the client’s taste.

From nontoxic floor boards and paint, to gorgeous furniture and original artwork sourced by Josephine, my office is a haven of calm that clients (and I) look forward to spending time in. The One Rundle team extends to picture hanging, complimentary furniture delivery and I remain in awe of the manoeuvring of a massive 4 seater lounge up a narrow staircase.  Working with Josephine is such a wonderful experience, her energy and talent are incomparable and her ability to charm grumpy neighbours was magnificent to watch. For beautiful, unique projects delivered on time and on budget I have no hesitation in recommending Josephine’s services.

Mt George

Josephine has been a great help to us in reinterpreting virtually all the rooms in our home over many years of association.

I first contacted josephine 16 years ago because we were having difficulty furnishing our home in Mt George. The house is large and designed in a mid-century style, with exposed internal stone walls and enormous windows. We didn’t know how to approach the decoration and felt a bit overwhelmed.

Josephine conceived an entirely new decorative scheme and managed to incorporate some of our existing furniture by recovering it . She commissioned other pieces for us and sourced lots of additional furniture and Art. She gave both of us confidence to move out of our comfort zones and explore new ways of looking at our interiors.

We have continued to use her services very regularly and she has most recently totally transformed 3 bathrooms and a large casual living area that we had barely used for 10years.

We have found josephine to be easy to work with, she has great ideas, listens closely and makes magic happen.

We recommend her services to anyone wanting their home to be the best it can be, at reasonable cost. It has always been a pleasure to deal with Josephine and her Team.
